This is obviously a speculation thread, so let's speculate:
What would be needed to conquer a district? Bring back defence nodes. Also command nodes. Attackers need to capture defence nodes to stop the barrage against your MCC. So you could stretch the battle forever. If you capture the command node, you basically have the district. The defender would have to reinforce with an MCC and recapture the district. Or you would be able to reattac from neighbouring districts if they are yours by DS and APC (armoured personnel carriers w. CRUs).

Ok, there would have to be a mechanism to shorten the battles if necessary.
This would be PC mechanics.
In the first battle the attacker brings his MCC in. The objective is to capture all null cannons and the orbital cannon... which is fired after a certain time (charge time). If the orbital cannon fires, it destroys the attackers warbarge and the district is saved.
However if the attacker captures the null cannons (thereby saving his MCC) and captures the orbital cannon, a second battle will spawn. When the orbital cannon is captured, it will be overloaded so it can't be shot for the rest of the Attack.
In this second battle, the objective is to connect the MCC with the district. So the MCC moves over the map towards the command node. Any damage of the previous battle would still be there, maybe reduced by a certain amount, that depends on the MCC commanders skillpoints. While aproaching the command node, the MCC would be attacked by nullcannons that may be recaptured by the defenders, or deployable (weaker) nullcannons or bombers. As soon as the MCC is successfully docked on the district, the defender has no more abilities to reinforce the district. They would be able to retreat forces, to reinforce the next battle.
Third and final battle, if the defender has enough resources to reattack on the planet, he could move an MCC or vehicles from other districts/warbarges to the district and reattack instantly (say within 15 min). This reattack would obviously be similar to the first attack just from the other side of the map. |

I have to ask, though... if the defending team were to not have a MCC on current game modes, what would the null cannons be firing at?
At the attackers MCC. The null cannons would be red for the attacker at the start of the battle.

Well as I wrote in the edit, you would just deactivate the nullcannons, and secondary objective would be the command node.
This will not happen anytime soon, so it's all speculation! |
